Why PVC Is Used for Well Casing

Steel casing can corrode in the saline and mineral rich groundwater common across Saudi Arabia's agricultural regions, which shortens the working life of a well and can introduce corrosion by products into the water drawn from it. PVC casing does not corrode, resists the chemical conditions found in most groundwater, and is significantly lighter to handle and install on site than steel of an equivalent diameter.

Casing Pipe vs Screen Pipe: The Two Parts of a Well

A borewell is not lined with a single continuous pipe type. The section above the water bearing zone is sealed with solid casing pipe, while the section within the water bearing zone uses perforated screen pipe that lets groundwater enter while filtering out sediment.

The depth of the water bearing zone, and therefore the split between casing and screen, is determined by the site's hydrogeological survey, not by the pipe supplier. Confirm this against the well driller's own report before ordering.

Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 casing pipe differ in wall thickness and pressure and collapse resistance, which matters more on a deeper well under greater ground pressure.
